4.1 India: Post-Independence India has witnessed a very impressive growth not only in corporate sector but overall. With the development of the country the instances of corruption also increased. As noted earlier, whistleblower has a great role in controlling this corruption and illegalities. Let us examine Indiaââ¬â¢s efforts to tackle corruption and to have good governance measures. 4.1.1 179th Law Commission Report In August, 1999, Mr N.Vittal, the then Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) requested the Law Commission to draft a bill encouraging to disclose corrupt practices of the part of public functionaries and protecting honest person from such disclosures . Considering that corruption has become a global malaise and for its eradication, ââ¬Ëwhistle blowingââ¬â¢ laws have been enacted by U.K., U.S.A and Australia; and further corrupt practices violate human rights and basic freedom and affect the development of a nation, the Law Commission considered it necessary to recommend some measures to check this evil by preparing a report on ââ¬ËThe Public Interest Disclosure and Protection of Informersââ¬â¢ .
